It was wind-filled day this past Sunday when the LOSC hosted its Club Championship.  Nine brave competitors took to the water.  Unfortunately, the wind became too strong by early afternoon, and many sailors were unable to compete.  Two races were completed before whitecaps drove the remaining sailors to the shore.

Congratulations go to Rupert Holmes-Smith for defending his title.  He was re-awarded the "Ice Welcomer" trophy.  New member Howard Carney came in second.

Heart-felt thanks go to the volunteers who literally chilled themselves to the bone in order to assist the sailors both on and off the water.  Without their assistance, events like this simply can not happen.  Volunteers are the glue that holds this club together.  Thank you!

After the boats were put away, Stan Storwick recounted the history of the club.  It's quite the story!  If you missed it, be sure to get Stan to tell you.

The 55th anniversary of the club was then fêted with cake and, of course, an amazing potluck meal. 

Due to the days getting shorter, races are scheduled to begin at 4PM.  If you can't be ready to sail at this time,  don't worry.  You can always join the second or third heat.  

As there are only a few more racing nights left in the season, it would be great to have a full contingent of boats on the water.  Also, the wind is usually quite nice this time of year.  And the best part, very few power boats are on the lake!

Let's finish the sailing season with a bang!

On Sunday, September 16th, we will be hosting our Fall Regatta and Club Championship.  We will also be celebrating the 55th anniversary of the Lake Osoyoos Sailing Club!

The racing will involve a single start with handicap scoring of all boats.  The first race will start at 12:30pm, and we will have a competitors’ meeting at 12:00pm.  We will run as many races as we can, with a targeted completion of racing at around 4:00pm. 

This is a fun regatta and we encourage all members to participate.  We also encourage members who are not racing to come down and watch.

We are looking for a few volunteers to assist with the regatta.  If you are able to help out, please contact a member of the executive.

After the races, we will have cake, along with the usual pot luck dinner, to celebrate the LOSC’s 55th anniversary.
