The "Challenger" and Pierre have almost reached Falmouth, England. They should arrive tomorrow. In the meantime, here are some photos from the "Newfoundland Screech". Our very own Pierre Forand is fulfilling a life-long dream. He’s traversing the Atlantic Ocean on a 60ft racing boat christened “Challenger.”
Pierre started his sailing adventure out of Lunenburg, NS, at the beginning of October. He completed the Newfoundland Screech race (Lunenburg to St. John’s) on Saturday, October 8th. As crew on Challenger, he got to experience first-hand the gale force winds from the upper reaches of Hurricane Matthew! On October 10th, Challenger began the Marconi Transat – a race that begins in St. John’s and finishes in Falmouth, England. At a distance of 1900 nautical miles, the voyage usually takes 8 to 10 days. If you’d like to track Pierre’s progress, please go to Spartan Ocean Racing and click on the grey oval Tracker button just under the title banner. |
