Annual Fall Clean-Up is October 16th

10/9/2021

As the sailing season comes to a close, it is once again time to tidy up the grounds and club house.

Clean-up will begin at 09:30 hrs on Saturday, October 16th.

We will require enough hands to move the boat and dock.  Yard work (raking and bagging leaves) and tidying up around boats is required.  While the kitchen requires very little work, windows and screens need to be cleaned inside and out.  There are some spiderwebs to be tackled. The bathrooms also need some work.   A complete list of jobs has been posted on the whiteboard.

Due to COVID restrictions, masks will be required inside the building at all times.  A maximum of 3 people will be allowed in the dining and kitchen area, 1 person per bathroom and 2 people in the locker and workroom area.

Let's all do our part.  Thank you!

Annual Spring Clean-Up is March 20th!

3/10/2021

Spring is around the corner and it's time for a general clean-up around the sailing club. This year's clean-up has been scheduled for Saturday, March 20th, at 10:00am.  (If it's raining, the clean-up will be re-scheduled for March 27th.)

In pre-Covid times, the clean-up would entail outside maintenance, such as yard work and tidying up around boats.  It would also entail giving the club house a good scrub.

This year, in order to abide Covid protocols, the interior cleaning will have to be handled differently.

Bob has posted a list on the inside bulletin board of the inside cleaning activities which need to be accomplished, and he asks that if you are able to do any of the tasks that you do so at times other than on the clean-up day.  Please indicate which actions you've completed on the list and then record your hours in the volunteer book.

Regarding outside cleaning activities, we ask that you abide by Covid protocols and ensure that you log in to the Covid record book when you arrive.  Additionally, record your hours in the volunteer book.

In addition to the normal maintenance of the outside areas, there will be a work party to refurbish the kayak/canoe racks which will be coordinated by Jim Cuttle. In order to perform the refurb without too much inconvenience to users of the racks, one rack will be worked on Saturday, March 20th, and the other on March 27th.

In order to facilitate the refurb, users of the south rack who have their equipment locked to the rack will be asked to remove and either temporarily store their equipment on an empty spot on the north rack (of which there are only 2 open spots), find another location on the grounds, or take their equipment home. Similarly, we will ask users of the north rack to do the same the following Saturday.

We are specifically asking users of these racks for assistance in the refurbishment.  The process is to stain the uprights, reinforce where necessary, extend any arms [where desired by users for more surface area to hold their kayak or canoe] and to staple/glue outdoor carpet on the arms.  Thus, we will need someone with carpentry skills, a skill saw, screw drivers, drills and hopefully a tape measure!

Jim may, in advance, send out a specific note to the registered users of the racks with more information.

It must be noted that we have two new members each of whom are bringing 2 kayaks.  Thus you can see that the activities at the club are somewhat morphing in another forms of watersports. The current racks hold 16 pieces, and with the addition of these 4, the racks will be filled.

Hope to see you on the 20th!

It's Time to Renew Your Membership

2/27/2021

The cold weather is finally breaking and it's time to think about all of the the great water sports available to us on Lake Osoyoos:  sailing, kayaking, canoeing, kiteboarding, windsurfing and paddle boarding!

It is now time to think about renewing your membership to LOSC.  With some luck and after needle sticks in our arms, perhaps we can enjoy a near normal summer with Sunday potluck dinners.  Here's hoping!

Shortly we will announce a spring cleanup as the grounds are looking a little sad after our bizarre winter.
