This and That

6/5/2020

1) The RCMP is doing on-boat checks of safety equipment.  Note that a watertight flashlight is required, unless you are carrying three Canadian-approved flares.  (Cellphone lights are not considered acceptable equipment.)  Please ensure that you are carrying all required (and functioning) safety equipment when going out on the water.

2) There will be a Light Up The Lake event on July 1st.  It will be motorized and not limited to Club members,  so spread the word.  The marshalling for the event will take place at dusk with the parade of boats passing through the south end of the north part of the lake after dark.

3) The Open House will be held on July 1st during the afternoon and on the grass to the south of the clubhouse.  The Club is seeking volunteers to hand out pamphlets and to answer any questions.

Happy sailing!

12/14/2019

The LOSC is very pleased to announce a Christmas Boat Parade on December 24th departing at 6PM in front of the clubhouse.

Participating captains will need to prepare their boats prior to departure.  Captains and anyone else willing to help out (ie. string lights) should contact Pierre Forand as he would like to get started on the preparations as soon as possible.

The Parade is open to anyone (including power boats).  The route will go around the lower end of the upper basin of Lake Osoyoos.  Please spread the word.

2019 North American Sea Spray Championships Results

9/22/2019

Congratulations to Don Snell for winning the 2019 North American Sea Spray Championships!  Congratulations also go to Richard Braul for second place and Rupert Holmes-Smith for third place finishes.  There were 11 Sea Sprays competing, but unfortunately no American competitors were present.

Also competing in the Invitational Fall Regatta were Matt and Robin Koenig with their Hobie.  They seemed to have a good time, despite the lack of competitors in their field.

The races, hosted by the Lake Osoyoos Sailing Club, had good winds on Saturday and Sunday which allowed for 10 races overall.  Friday was a sit-on-the-beach-day with only one race.  John Cormack officiated as race officer.

It should be noted that Chris Scheuren, a non-competitor, won the Turkey Award for attempting a long distance trip with a motor boat without a very necessary gas tank.  Outboard motors can run without a gas tank, albeit for only five minutes.  Good thing there were oars in the boat!

The LOSC would like to acknowledge the dedicated work of the clean-up crew, the shore crew, the on-water safety crew and the racing committee crew.  Another huge thank-you goes to the crew who prepared, served and clean-up after each meal.  Mealtimes were efficient due to their well-coordinated efforts.  Thank you to Anne-Marie Brousseau and Sandra Robinson for taking charge of this task.  Also, thank you to John Cowan for acting as Regatta Chairman.

In short, heart-felt thank-yous go to all of the LOSC volunteers who made the regatta a huge success.  We could not host an event like this without you!
